You've heard it before but it doesn't mean we all get the final picture. For the creative arts industry & record business, technology advancement has dictated our attitudes to our craft & what limits we put on our practice/s. For the artist, its been a great step up in terms of access to recording technologies not needing to much more than a soundcard & a computer. But, what it meant for the business is an out-pour of recorded works that diminished in demand strictly due to volume. Hence, the lack of what the current demand is also dictated the worth of even the best of artists in the recording industry that led to under-valued price tags just so streaming platforms can get their feed. That's ok with me for I have only really knew how to get by doing my own thing. But to the greats, its big business lost. & now, we all have grown to accept it. & it breaks 'fairness & due credit' where its due & really sad to have functioned on the dragon's tail for so long. & it is what it is & a re-shape or re-modelling of business is outside of anybody's hands as a creative. Though believe it or not, the flip-side is soon to come yet, that's not for anybody I know to be worrying about. The only thing a creative is going to presently concern themselves with are what should be their pivot point as in to how to tackle bad business. You don't need a record deal to value your work. Its not a means of validation (especially when you're not happy how the record business is ran). What we should concern ourselves with is the question of, 'Am I doing what I am meant to be doing that nurtures growth on my daily living & creative practices?' When asking relevant questions & there's nothing stirring up within, then the redirection needs to happen. Without faith & guidance (preferably from a credible source), no matter how hard you work, you will always find it hard to negate unwanted circumstances. & your creativity will deteriorate. The result is a life lived while being sick & tired day in day out. That's not recommendable. So, bottom line is as compelling as yesterday, & its the very thing that will dictate your present & coming future days. I read the bible a lot, & the words on print have never been so true that it hurts the inner man. If you didn't tap into personal spirituality & the human question of being, your creative efforts CANNOT amount to much as food is fed to the stomach & spiritual sustenance requires a God. Then all the technology in the world cannot affect the inward being in terms of output & is powerful enough to create a demand for itself. This is how a personal turnaround happens at best & inevitable, eventually the greater human practice.
